I have received this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I got this book on Netgalley, but since I have Kindle Unlimited this month, I also got it in Audiobook – I love listening to thrillers!

Her Last Word is the story of Kaitlin Roe, whose cousin Gina disappeared fourteen years ago and was never heard of again. Kaitlin is working on a podcast, trying to gather all information she can to bring the cold case back to the public and enhance the chance of finding her. She was the last person to see Gina, as a man with a clown mask took her cousin, but her memory fails her. Did she recognize his voice? How did she end up with Gina’s blood on her hands?

I really enjoyed the narration! It was pretty nicely done. The main characters Kaitlin and detective Adler were both very charismatic, complicated people that were so easy to cheer for. I was nervous at every turn when Kaitlin got closer and closer to finding the truth. I also love how cool and composed detective Adler was, but also very honest with himself about his feelings for her and maintained his professional behavior (mostly).

I also liked there was a bit of graphology in the investigation, I find that really interesting! The mystery was not so interesting in the beginning, to be honest, and it felt a bit generic: pretty girl everyone likes is probably dead but no one knows who did it. BUT. The mystery gets actually more complex and interesting as the story goes on.

The ending was actually very sweet and I connected with both main characters and warmed to their relationship. I highly recommend this book, if you don’t mind a bit of romance in your thrillers!

  1. I’m so glad you enjoyed this novel. I don’t read too many mystery novels (although I literally just posted a review of one, lol) but I will definitely keep this one on my radar! Great review 🙂
