Books to Read in One Sitting

Hello readers!

Similarly to my other list of recommendations for a rainy day, I thought it’d be nice to recommend books that you can sit down, grab a warm drink and dive into in one single sitting. It’s cold and dark in the northern hemisphere right now, and some of us might need a bit distraction to deal with the extra gloominess of these months. That, plus the extra time from the end of the year vacations, I think this is a timely post to publish.

So, without further ado, here are the books I recommend…

Dark Matter Blake Crouch Never let me go Kazuo Ishiguro neverworld wake marisha pessl

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
This thriller is absolutely fantastic. It’s the kind of book that stays in your mind, after properly blowing it. It involves multiverses and moral dilemmas, which is honestly one of the best mixes for an exciting sci-fi.
Goodreads / Amazon

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
This beautiful book is a work of art. It is a sci-fi that reads like a literary book and it goes deeply into friendship, consequences, ethics and moral dilemmas. It will stay with you like a skin-tight story.
Goodreads / Amazon

Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl
When five friends get into an accident, they are stuck in the Neverworld Wake. Only one of them will survive the wake, and they all must decide on it. It’s a mystery full of twists and such an interesting, fast-paced read!

a monster calls patrick ness Quiet Girl in a Noisy World Debbie Tung 816084

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness
This short, wonderful book is a mix of contemporary and fantasy, and will be a punch to the gut emotionally. I was in the train reading this book and didn’t feel the trip pass at all – this was one of my favorite reads of this year!

Quiet Girl in a Noisy World by Debbie Tung
These very relatable comics are both hilarious and very cute! Perfect for bookish introverts!
Goodreads / Amazon

The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie
This is the book that started the Hercule Poirot series, and it’s such a cozy mystery classic! I recommend highly for fans of whodunits!

love hate and other filters samira ahmed 32053538 35794821

Love, Hate and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed
This is such a great book! It’s about a Muslim girl dealing with prejudice and trying to find who she is between the world of her parents and of her American upbringing. It’s so cool that she loves filming and it shows on the story, and I read this very quickly! TW: xenophobia, racism, physical assault
Goodreads / Amazon

The 9th Life of Louis Drax by Liz Jensen
This psychological thriller was very interesting! Louis Drax is a child, who is in a coma after an accident that left many questions. There are hints of paranormal in the story, and it was really unique to read. TW: mentions of anorexia, children in coma, mention of rape, child abuse, toxic relationships, alcoholism
Goodreads / Amazon

Anne Frank’s Diary adapted by Ari Folman
A touching adaptation of Anne Frank’s diary, her experience of hiding away throughout adolescence during World War II, is very well done in this graphic novel.
