It’s been a while since my Audiobook Recommendations post, so I thought I’d give you a few more recs! I listen to audiobooks a lot, and these are some that I thought were done really well!
I read mostly thrillers on audio, so most of my recommendations will be thrillers!
January LaVoy is my favorite narrator, so I will gladly recommend basically any audiobook she narrates. This one was no exception – Jar of Hearts was very popular when it came out, and although I ended up giving it 3 stars, most people I know loved it. AND the narration is fantastic.
This book is just fantastic, and the narrator does a pretty good job, too! My sister recommended this one to me and boy, was she right.
There are three POVs and three narrators to this book, which always makes me happy. I love different narrators! One of them has quite a thick accent, which for me was not so easy to understand, and talks in sort of a monotone, but the others are really good, especially Lydia.
This is a dark thriller so full of twists, and the narration is a very nicely done! It’s about a wife who is divorcing from her husband and just found out he’s already planning the wedding with the girl he left her for… and she MUST stop the wedding. If you love psychological thrillers and wish for something a bit more feminist PLUS you love a good twist (or two or three), this is perfect for you.
An Anonymous Girl is by the same authors, and I loved it even more. It’s different from your regular thriller, this one being about a young woman who joins a psychological study that turns out to be much darker than she thought. Not your regular personality test. The narration done by the doctor and the young woman are so nicely done!
This is fantastic! I listened to this while travelling for goddamn endless hours… and didn’t even feel the time go by. I was biting my nails and really gripped by the story, so it’s safe to say not only the book itself is really good, but the actual narration is great, too! I’m obsessed with this and want to get a physical copy, too.
This is another fantastic read! It’s a mystery with bits of thriller, but I was so addicted to the story that I forgot to change to music while running… and listened to the audio for almost 20min before noticing at all. I finished my run listening to this and no regrets.
The audio of this is fantastic – if you don’t know, Sadie is told in a podcast format, so it works especially well in audio! It’s the story of a girl who runs away to exact revenge on the killer of her sister. This book grows on you, definitely, and it’s so addictive.
Science Fiction and Fantasy
This is a whodunit in space, with clones. What else do you need to know? Mur Lafferty narrates this herself, and her voice is quiet and pleasant. If you like more drama and emotion and lots of modulation on the narrations you listen to, this is not for you. She narrates, as said, rather quietly, but I thought it was quite pleasant to listen to while walking places.
This was a YA fantasy with such an interesting world! Magical books, demons, sorcerers… and the audio is done so well! I highly recommend this book.
This is an amazing full cast audiobook and surely one of my favorite to listen to of all time. I can’t say just how amazing this was! It’s the story of a rock band in the 70s and why the broke up after becoming the most famous band in the world.
This was a delicious historical romance, and the main character is so sassy, I love her. The narration is done quite well and I enjoyed this a lot!
Well, first of all Gillian Flynn does the introduction herself, so there is THAT. Secondly, this is the true story of Michelle’s search for this serial killer, who just recently got found. She does so with lots of tact and sensitivity, and I did enjoy this book a lot. There is so much research done for it, it’s an interesting book and helps bring the reader close to the victims, instead of just sensationalizing the murders.
The book itself is so wonderful, and the narration is SO good. I couldn’t have enough of it, and at the same time Tara’s story was so intense I had to take breaks because the immersion into her world overwhelmed me. She goes through so much, having grown up so isolated from society. It’s a fascinating story that makes you think.
Jenny narrates the book herself, and she’s super funny. I do like Furiously Happy more, and I think the narration is just as good as this one because she narrates that too, but this is the one I listened to, so I’m recommending it for anyone wanting to get a good laugh!
This book is amazing! I for some reason normally prefer female voices on narrations, but this was really good and the voice made me feel almost like Carreyrou himself was reading. Bad Blood is a wild ride from beginning to end and such an addictive read. It tells the true story of Theranos’ rise and fall from success and its CEO, Elizabeth Holmes, going from being the “female Steve Jobs” to a complete fraud. You definitely don’t need much of a science background, or business background to be completely immersed in the story and obsessed with it!
