It’s been a while that I wrote the Bookish Playlist #1, and I thought it would be nice to do a follow-up. This is always such a fun post to write, and I think it’s super useful if you’re on a bookish hangover after finishing any of these books – I obsessively listen to music that reminds me of the book if I loved it. It helps me process my feelings, somehow.
Wintersong, by S. Jae-Jones
This might be a bit of a stretch, but I actually think The Monster by Eminem ft. Rihanna fits well with Wintersong: they’re both about finding your place among the monsters nobody else could live with. Also this series has a bit of that trope where the main character experiences fantastical elements that could be interpreted as mental illness, and that too fits the song!
Six of Crows, by Leigh Bardugo
I really like the song Heathens by Twenty-One Pilots, and I think it fits Six of Crows quite well – they’re both about a quirky and not, how to put it nicely?, entirely lawful and good characters who have issues trusting other people. They’re both fun and I think they fit together! I put the video below, but also I found a playlist for Six of Crows that is absolutely perfect (AND includes Heathens):
A Little Life, by Hanya Yanagihara
I think a good match for this book is Back to Black, by Amy Winehouse, which to me has the same (depressing) tone that makes you want to curl up in a ball and cry. I also found a playlist for that on Spotify, and it did not include Back to Black but it’s still great 😬
Vicious, by V.E. Schwab
Vicious, by Halestorm is an obvious choice, but it fits the book perfectly. I love this song, I love this book and they’re both deliciously dark. The playlist I’m linking below is also delicious and dark but it does NOT HAVE THIS SONG and that is a crime, in my opinion.
Do you have ideas of other songs to be matched with these books?
