Every October I choose a few spooky, witchy or otherwise Halloween-themed books, and this year will be no different! It’s just the perfect weather to pick up something a bit eerie, creepy, atmospheric and magical.
Other posts I wrote on previous October reads:
All the Birds in the Sky, by Charlie Jane Anders has been on my TBR for a while! I’ve owned this book for maybe a year or two, so I’m excited to read it. It’s a book that seems to be more on the weird side than horror, but it’s magical and witchy and strange, so I thought it was pretty cool for October!
Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman is also not horror, but sounds delightful, dangerous and has monsters, so it’s a pretty Halloween-y book in my opinion. Also the edition I have has illustrations and I’m super excited for it!
We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson is a horror book! Yay! Of all the books I’d like to read this month, this is the one I’m most excited for, so I might just pick it up first.
The War in the Dark, by Nick Setchfield is a speculative fiction set during the Cold War, it has horror and magic, and honestly sounds so cool. I’ve been meaning to read more speculative fiction / alternative history, so this is a nice choice!
Places in the Darkness, by Christopher Brookmyre is a murder mystery in space with a noir vibe that sounds perfect for a Halloween read!
October is a month where my readings become very fantasy & sci-fi-oriented. There’s something about the cool, longer nights that put me in the mood for some magical reads.
Are you reading something Halloween-themed this month?
