Audiobook Narrator Spotlight: January LaVoy

Hello readers!

Today I’m writing something a little different. I listen to audiobooks quite often, and a good narrator can make or break a book for sure, and there are a few particular narrators that I really love. My favorite narrator of all times is the one I’m talking about today – January LaVoy. I first got to know her work through her famously fantastic narration of The Diviners series by Libba Bray, and have picked up other books I hadn’t considered before just because she narrated them!

I love the way she makes different voices, accents and I kinda love it every time she sings (she sings a lot in The Diviners series). It brings a story to life and adds personality to each of the characters. She’s my favorite for good reason, she is highly talented!

Here are some of the books she narrated:

the diviners libba bray jar of hearts jennifer hillier Dear Ijeawele or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie The Escape Room by Megan Goldin phasma delilah dawson bloodline claudia gray

  • The Diviners by Libba Bray / Goodreads
  • Dear Ijeawele, or A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie / Goodreads
  • Jar of Hearts Jennifer Hillier / Goodreads
  • The Escape Room by Megan Goldin / Goodreads
  • Star Wars: Phasma by Delilah S. Dawson / Goodreads
  • Star Wars: Bloodline – New Republic by Claudia Gray / Goodreads

I highly, highly recommend her narration! I love the Diviners series, and really enjoyed Jar of Hearts. I will be adding The Escape Room to my TBR asap!

    • She’s fantastic!! Do you have other favorite narrators? I have to say, I really like some other narrators, but she stands out so much it’s no competition for me.

  1. I agree! She did an amazing job. I was so scared listening to the Diviners because she made Naughty John so scary! I loveeee the narrator George Newbern. He reads A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. It does such an amazing job. He was the whole reason A Man Called Ove because my favorite book. I was trying to find the narrator of A Man Called Ove on my library app and discovered they now have a new narrator named J.K Simmons. I don’t think he does as great of a job. I hope they don’t get rid of George’s version “/

    • She did!! She does amazing scary voices. And I kind of love her singing, especially her creepy ghostly singing. Ohh I haven’t listened to George Newbern narrating any books yet, I’ll look him up!

  2. I loved January LaVoy’s narration of The Diviners and (appropriately enough) The Ten Thousand Doors Of January. She always gets each character’s voice just right and she’s definitely becoming one of my favourite narrators!

    • She’s such a good narrator! I am thinking about listening to Ten Thousand Doors of January… it just sounds so good. There’s a character in The Diviners which shows up on book 2 or 3 named LaVoy (Ling’s gf I think?) and I wonder if Libba Bray named her after January.
