So, in a desperate attempt to post something still today and not have another week of terrible scheduling for my blog, I am writing this rather random post! It came to my attention rather belatedly (we’re in mid-April… omg) that MOST of the series I follow are going to be DONE this year and I’m at a loss.
The realization came to me yesterday:
After posting this on Twitter, I realized there were a few more series ending this year! So, we have:
- The Poppy War, by R. F. Kuang
- The Diviners, by Libba Bray
- Cromwell Trilogy, by Hilary Mantel
- Empirium, by Claire Legrand
- The Locked Tomb, by Tamsyn Muir
- Legacy of Orisha, by Tomi Adeyami (not sure about this one)
- Bromance Book Club (maybe?)
(The Green Bone Saga, by Fonda Lee apparently only ends on 2021, which at the same time WHYYY I NEED ANSWERS but also phewww my emotions will not be crushed for a while yet)
So after that, if I am not mistaken, which I probably am, there are only maybe three series that I currently follow which aren’t going to be finished this year (Green Bone Saga, for one, Alex Stern is another), and I have such conflicting feelings about that. I love following series, but I also love the freedom of picking up a book and knowing once I’m done reading it it’s done, instead of committing to several books for years. I’m excited to get my TBR a bit slimmer whenever I finish a book, instead of adding just the next book of the series, but I also love the world building, the emotional connection you form with character that you follow for a long time… Not sure how I feel. How do you guys feel about series? Do you follow many or do you prefer standalones?
