I received an advance copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
The Meet Cute Club has been the one thing Jordan is truly passionate about, and he always looks forward to spending his Saturday afternoons talking about romance books and eating delicious baked things. But attendance is dwindling and the club can’t survive anyone else leaving, so when the rude new bookseller from Jordan’s favorite bookstore decides to join it, he can hardly refuse. After all, romance is for everyone, right? Even for rude, handsome Rex and his insufferable attitude… right?
I am very happy to have enjoyed this! It’s exactly the kind of low-stakes, sweet romance that I needed at this moment, although normally I wouldn’t gravitate towards books like this: I like a bit more drama, and would have also liked a bit more character exposure and a slower pacing – things moved so quickly there was not much yearning and I live for the yearning. Obviously this is a matter of personal taste, and this is such a perfect book for readers looking for something sweet to make you happy and spend a lovely afternoon with. I personally felt like I wanted a bit more out of it, to see the book club meetings a bit more, to get to know the characters a bit more instead of having information being dumped a bit on the reader, hence the 3-star rating.
It’s a book that will make bookworms smile, recognizing themselves quite a bit in Jordan and his genuine excitement about books and the power they have to bring joy. I love stories about bookish characters, it makes me happy to relate so easily to a character. If you’re looking for a HEA that will soothe your soul and not make you die of anxiety, this is a really nice one! It has so much love for grandmothers, messy families, muffins, books and romantic gestures. In times like these *gestures vaguely at everything* I think a lot of us could use a cute romance with low stakes.
