Last year in December I posted the 2020 releases I was looking forward to, but every year a few months later we find out about a lot of other releases, especially upcoming on the second half of the year, therefore I thought it would be interesting to do a follow-up with other releases I’m looking forward to in the second half of 2020. This will include books from my first post, just in case new readers have missed or forgotten about these releases!
June 02 – The Guest List by Lucy Foley / Goodreads
I loved loved loved The Hunting Party, so I’m very excited for this new Lucy Foley thriller!
June 9 — The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon / Goodreads
This just sounds super cute and I’ve heard amazing things about it, plus it’s nice to read romance from time to time!
June 12 – Pizza Girl by Jean Kyoung Frazier / Goodreads
This book was described as having the same dry humor as in Convenience Store Woman, and honestly, that sold it to me. It’s about a teen girl who’s pregnant and working as a pizza girl, and forms a sort of friendship with an older, strange woman.
June 12 – Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas / Goodreads
A Gothic horror where students are sent to this school but must cut contact with the outside world for three years. It just sounds so creepy and delicious!
June 19 – Beach Read by Emily Henry / Goodreads
I’ve read this one already! It’s really cute and with surprising depth! It deals with so much but that leaves your heart light in the end.
June 30 — Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia / Goodreads
I read The Gods of Jade and Shadow by the author and it was really fun, even if not the best read – I’m looking forward to seeing what readers think of this Gothic murder mystery set in Mexico!
June 30 — Home Before Dark by Riley Sager / Goodreads
I loved, loved, loved Lock Every Door, so I expect great things from this next book!
July 7 — Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power / Goodreads
I am not sure I want to pick this up, but it’s a Sapphic MC going back to her hometown and Dealing with Things
July 7 – Girl, Serpent, Thorn by Melissa Bashardoust / Goodreads
I loved Girls of Snow and Glass, and I heard this one is even better! It’s been getting a bit of hype, which is great.
July 28 – The Care and Feeding of Waspish Widows by Olivia Waite / Goodreads
This is the author of Celestial Mechanics, which I haven’t read yet, but I’m already super excited about the second book in this series! It sounds so lovely.
August 4 – The Dark Tide by Alicia Jasinska / Goodreads
This sounds romantic, dark and twisty, and I’m all here for it!
August 20 – Summerwater by Sarah Moss / Goodreads
I loved Ghost Wall last year, and look so much forward to this next book by Sarah Moss! I don’t know much about it but, if it’s anything like her last book, it will be a short, visceral read.
August 28 – He Started It by Samantha Downing / Goodreads
I’ve already read this one and it was thoroughly entertaining, intriguing and I had a really good time reading it. I just adore Samantha Downing and hope she writes many more thrillers!
September 1 – Throwaway Girls by Andrea Contos / Goodreads
This is a YA F/F thriller about friendship and secrets with a wonderful cover, I’m looking so much forward to reading it!
September 8 — Transcendent Kingdom: A novel by Yaa Gyasi / Goodreads
I haven’t read Homegoing yet, but I’ve heard it’s wonderful and, according to my husband, exactly the kind of book I would love, so I have high hopes also for her new book, which is about a girl with a scientific mind who finds herself yearning for the childhood faith she once had, in face of all the loss she’s lived.
September 8 – Bestiary by K-Ming Chang / Goodreads
Multi-generational story about queer women and magical realism? I pressed the “Want to read” button faster than you think.
September 11 – The Harpy by Megan Hunter / Goodreads
This sounds just so intriguing – a woman discovers that her husband has been cheating on her, and decides to stay together and save her marriage, but in exchange he will be hurt by her three times. It’s also a magical realism book (no idea how!) and I look forward to reading it!
September 15 – When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole / Goodreads
Alyssa Cole is such a fantastic romance writer who adds such depth to her books and tackles racism in all of them – so it will be fascinating to read her first thriller!
September 15 – Each of Us a Desert by Mark Oshiro / Goodreads
This F/F fantasy sounds lovely and is set in the desert, a story about two girls falling in love despite everything. Plus I think there’s monsters? Looking forward!
September 25 – Sisters by Daisy Johnson / Goodreads
I loved Daisy Johnson’s last book and I am so, so excited to read this one! It’s a horror and centered around two sisters and their weird relationship with each other, and that’s all I know, and I’m obsessed already.
September 29 – Burning Roses by S.L. Huang / Goodreads
I haven’t read reviews on this yet and I’m not sure what to expect of it, but it’s a Chinese retelling of Little Red Riding Hood plus has a Latina character and both main characters are LGBT+ women! Sounds really cool. AND THAT COVER.
September 29 – A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik / Goodreads
This seems to be a dark academia young adult and I look so much forward to it! Her last book, Spinning Silver, won my heart and I just know I will love this one, too!
October 6 – The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab / Goodreads
I adored Vicious, and V. E. Schwab has been working on this book for many years, so I look forward to seeing what she wrote! I think this will be brilliant – it’s the story of a girl who’s forgotten by anyone who meets her.
October 20 – The Midnight Library by Matt Haig / Goodreads
This is a book that deals with multiple realities and being okay with who you are and the choices you make. I love all the fiction from Matt Haig I’ve read so far, and I expect to love this one, too!
November 13 – Lightbringer by Claire Legrand / Goodreads
This is the last installment of the Empirium series and I look forward to seeing how this ends!! The last book ended in SUCH a dramatic note.
December 19 – The Burning God by R. F. Kuang / Goodreads
Another last book in the series and I!!! Can’t wait!!! This is seriously one of the best fantasy series out there, I can’t recommend it enough.
December 31 – Alecto the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir / Goodreads (no cover)
Not sure if comes out only on 2021 rather, but I love, love, love this series and I look forward (and dread) this final installment! Necromancers, space, lesbians, murder, it’s just an amazing and mind-blowing series.
December 31 – Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee / Goodreads
This is another brilliant fantasy series that will be finishing this year. Seriously, it’s amazing, with political drama, movie-worthy fight scenes and complicated families. I look forward to seeing how it ends!
