January Wrap Up + February TBR

Hello readers!

January is OVER I can hardly believe it oh my gosh. We waited for 2020 for like, 4 years, and now a whole month is gone already. All I did this month was eat, read and go back to work (which disrupted my reading, hmph!). Still, January was a really interesting reading month, since it’s the one time of the year when I have no TBR at ALL so I just read whatever, and clearly I was in a fantasy mood. It’s cold, snowy/rainy where I live, so I feel like reading fantasies are amazing for this kind of weather, when all you want to do is get under the covers and cuddle your cat (who is more or less voluntarily cuddling) and read for hours.

  3. Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart (ongoing)
  4. You Too Can Have a Body Like Mine by Alexandra Kleeman (2 stars)
  5. Long Bright River by Liz Moore (3 stars)
  6. Princesas, Bruxas e uma Sardinha na Brasa por Helena Gomes (4 stars)
  7. Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman (3 stars)
  8. Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett (4 stars)
  9. The Wizards of Once by Cressida Cowell (4 stars)

  11. A Crime in the Neighborhood by Suzanne Berne (3 stars)
  12. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (4 stars)
  13. The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers (4 stars)

This makes for:

  • 13 books read in total
  • 1 book in original Brazilian Portuguese & the rest in original English
  • 1 eARC, 1 recent release & 11 backlisted
  • ALL fiction and no non-fic!

I clearly was on a fantasy mood this month and did not have a TBR at all, so I just picked up whatever I was in the mood for! I’m excited to have

Monthly TBR

I already talked about in this post what I’m reading for Blackathon and F/F February, plus I will be finishing my current reads! Otherwise, I’m hoping to pick up a few ARCs but honestly I have no idea how much time I’ll have (plus I will be prioritizing books that help me read more for the readathons I’m joining), so boringly my TBR this month will be my readathon stuff plus whatever I already started! Anything else I pick up is a plus!

  1. Illusion by Paula Volsky (ongoing)
  2. Midnight Robber by Nalo Hopkinson (ongoing)
  3. Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart (ongoing)
  4. The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin
  5. The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris
  6. The Unbroken by C. L. Clark
  7. Bestiary by K-Ming Chang
  8. It is Wood, it is Stone by Gabriella Burnham

What are you reading in February? What were your favorite reads in January? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I found Illusion at a thrift store this week and immediately bought it because I heard about it from you! I don’t know when I’ll get to it, but I will eventually. I’ve been wanting to read something by Nalo Hopkinson, can’t wait to hear what you think about Midnight Robber.

    • Oh my gosh!!! That’s so cool! I really really hope you like Illusion as much as I do. I’m really enjoying the audiobook for Midnight Robber so far – hopefully I’ll be done this week still with it!

  2. What a busy reading month you’ve had! Picking up whatever you’re in the mood for seems like a great way to start the year. I hope you’ll have some good reads in Feb too even if you are sticking closer to a list. (It looks like a fun list!) Especially looking forward to your thoughts on Shuggie Bain, The Fifth Season, and The Other Black Girl.

    • Yes! I had nearly two weeks of January off so I got lots of reading done. Looking to bring my TBR below 150 books before March comes and destroys my TBR with the WP list and the International Booker!
