June Wrap Up: The month in which I read a bazillion books

Hello readers!

June went by so quickly – it was a very good month for reading because I had a few unexpected days off work and had plenty of time to read. Plus I’ve been listening to a lot of books in high speed, so I managed to get my TBR to below 130 books, which is quite amazing.

Books that were on my June TBR:

  1. How the One-Armed Sister Sweeps Her House by Cherie Jones – I didn’t pick this one up!
  2. Vidas Secas by Graciliano Ramos (4 stars)
  3. The Final Revival of Opal & Nev by Dawnie Walton (4 stars)
  4. The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri (4 stars)
  5. How to Find a Princess by Alyssa Cole (3 stars)
  6. Three Sisters, Three Queens by Philippa Gregory (4 stars)
  7. Girl in the Walls by A. J. Gnuse (4 stars)

Books I picked up this month although they were not on my planned TBR:

  1. Fallout: The Hiroshima Cover-up and the Reporter Who Revealed It to the World by Lesley M.M. Blume (4 stars)
  2. Unspeakable Acts: True Tales of Crime, Murder, Deceit, and Obsession by Sarah Weinman (4 stars)
  3. When the Tiger Came Down the Mountain by Nghi Vo (4 stars)
  4. Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones (4 stars)
  5. The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix (3 stars)
  6. The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton (4 stars)
  7. Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid (4 stars)
  8. The Seep by Chana Porter (3 stars)
  9. The Kingdom by Jo Nesbø (3 stars)
  10. Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado (4 stars)
  11. House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland (4 stars)
  12. A Dead Djinn in Cairo by P. Djèlí Clark (5 stars)
  13. Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor -DNF
  14. The Jigsaw Man by Nadine Matheson (4 stars)
  15. Tryst Six Venom by Penelope Douglas (ongoing)
  16. The Prey of Gods by Nicky Drayden (ongoing)

Some highlights about my reads:

  • My favorite read this month was A Dead Djinn in Cairo by P. Djèlí Clark! I am so happy there are more novellas to pick up and a full novel (yes!) from this series. I LOVED it.
  • The only book I haven’t read from my list if How the One-Armed Sister Sweeps Her House, because the Women’s Prize winner announcement has been delayed to September. As this is a very bleak read, I will postpone it until I am more in the mood for it.
  • I picked up a total of 22 books (!), DNF-ed one and still have to finish two. That is an excellent reading month right there!
  • My TBR is down to 125 books thanks to this amazing reading month.
  • I ended up DNF-ing Who Fears Death. I will not go into detail, but it’s the second time I picked up this novel and it just doesn’t work for me – the extreme violence is very hard for me to read, the amount of tropes in this book made it a bit boring to read, and the whole prophecy and overpowered main character situations did not really help matters either. This book as a LOT of merits and a lot of readers love it, but it just did not work for me.

So that was June! A lot of exciting reads this month.
