Books That Came Out In 2017 I Have Yet To Read

Hi bookworms!

The end of the year is here and there’s no way I can read everything that came out this year, because this year was fabulous for the reading world, so much good stuff came out and honestly, I could spend the year just reading new releases and would not run out of things to read. I am pretty sure this list is incomplete, but that is what I came up with after racking my brain!

30831912Norse Mythology, by Neil Gaiman

Goodreads

I have never read a book by Neil Gaiman before. There, I said it! Among all the stuff he wrote, this one really called my attention – my knowledge of Norse mythology is very superficial but I find it very interesting and I think this book will be a great way to get introduced to his work. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with this theme before, and this cover is SO gorgeous! I also have my eye on American Gods, Coraline and Neverwhere, but I need to start somewhere and I think this one is perfect.

28449207 Strange the Dreamer, by Laini Taylor

Goodreads

I have heard a lot of people say how great this book is, how bookish the main character is and how much of a Ravenclaw book this is… and well, that certainly caught my eye.

All I know about this book is that it’s a fantasy story. I don’t want to go into it with a lot of information and I’m hoping to get this book before the year is over! I just have a feeling that I will absolutely love it. I’m also not familiar with the author (I haven’t read Daughter of Smoke and Bone), so it’ll be fun to get to know a new author!

32191710Astrophysics for People in a Hurry, by Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Goodreads

I’m not a big fan of non-fiction, but this one is about Astrophysics and I’m in love with the topic since my teens. Also, after reading What If?, I’m in the mood for scientific texts with humor and simple language.

The last thing I was is to get into yet another textbook, but I do love learning about science, so that is a great motivation to pick this up!

33230889The Good Daughter, by Karin Slaughter

Goodreads

I also have never read anything by Karin Slaughter, but if her name is any indication, I think this thriller will be dark, gory and fast-paced. What else could I possibly want from a book?

This one comes highly recommended by a few book bloggers and I don’t know much about its plot, but I can’t wait to get reading it!

35247769Always and Forever, Lara Jean, by Jenny Han

Goodreads

I’ve read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before this year and really enjoyed how sweet and gripping the novel was. Lara Jean is such an easy going person and her relationship with her family is just so cute. I am saving the rest of the trilogy for when I feel like I need a feelgood book to get my mood a bit lighter. Also, for some reason it feels to me more like a summer/late spring kind of read. I don’t expect to read this anytime soon, as I still need to read book #2…

33280872Without Merit, by Coleen Hoover

Goodreads

I read the synopsis and a few reviews on this book, but I honestly don’t remember much about its plot, except that it’s a family drama and there is someone called Merit who seems to be the protagonist… but I have also never read anything by Coleen Hoover, and I am super into family dramas, so I think this one will be a great choice for getting to know her work. I’ve seen some mixed reviews, but I’m really expecting to love it and it sounds like it’s right up my alley.

30724132Geekerella, Ashley Poston

Goodreads

This Young Adult Contemporary just sounds so adorable!! I think I first heard about it through BookTube, and then I started seeing it everywhere… this also sounds like a cute, feelgood  romance novel that reads quickly and leaves you with a smile on your face. Also, I love that cover so much, and that there is a pumpkin food truck, I love that there is geekdom and fandom. I don’t like the Cinderella story much, but I’m willing to give this book a chance.

36362379Sing, Unburied, Sing, by Jesmyn Ward

Goodreads

I actually have this book already, but haven’t read it yet. I love this cover! This may or may not have been a cover-buy, I’m not going to confirm or deny it (definitely was, though), but the story actually sounds like something I’ll love. There is lyrical writing, family drama, lots of heartbreak and it just honestly sounds like a great read that will blow my mind. Also, I think I heard it’s also sort of a ghost story?? How great is that??

31952703Words in Deep Blue, by Cath Crowley

Goodreads

This book has been highly recommended by book bloggers I trust very much, and it sounds like such an intriguing and heartbreaking story about grief and love. I’m also a sucker for this cover, I love blue, I love books… need I say more?

I have changed my mind about Young Adult Contemporaries, I used to think I didn’t like them (??), but I’ve come around and look so much forward to reading this!

30969741An Enchantment of Ravens, by Margaret Rogerson

Goodreads

I have heard pretty mixed reviews on this Fantasy novel, with some people loving it or being very, very disappointed.

I am curious about it, and upon reading its plot it reminded me a lot of A Court of Thorns and Roses, but apparently it’s quite different according to the blurb. It has fairies, painting, forest, lots of all and lyrical writing plus romance, so I think I will really enjoy this book, although I have no idea when I’ll actually read it!

32076678The Fact of a Body: Murder and a Memoirby Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich

Goodreads

Another non-fiction! I sure love a good murder – erm, that came out wrong… I love reading a more gruesome book and I can’t deny that the mind of a murderer is something that is fascinating to read about, especially when it comes to true crime stories. I have the feeling this thriller will be chilling and emotional, and I really look forward to reading this! Maybe next Halloween? That’s so far, though!

28524058Before She Ignites, by Jodi Meadows

Goodreads

Another Young Adult Fantasy I wouldn’t have discovered without book bloggers! This sounds like a fantastic read with dragons, a heroine that suffers from anxiety, beautiful writing and a slow pace. Honestly, it sounds fantastic for fall/winter period, when I have more patience and enjoy reading books for their writing, so maybe I’ll pick this up soon! In any case, I’ve heard great things about it and can’t wait to read it!

30237061Daughter of the Burning City, by Amanda Foody

Goodreads

This book has been SO hyped on BookTube and Book Blogs, I honestly didn’t even think much of it before hearing so much blurb. It’s another fantasy young adult novel, but with a plot so unique that really caught my attention. It seems to me that the circus theme became very popular after The Night Circus came out, and I’m a big hesitant to picking up books that seem to have inspiration on books I loved so much, because I don’t think they can live up to the standards… but this sounds very intriguing, and I can’t wait to read it!

16130760Dawn Study, by Maria V. Snyder

Goodreads

I absolutely LOVE Poison Study, although now I last read it over five years ago and need a refresher before picking this up… but I love Maria V. Snyder’s writing and the vibrating life that she brings to her characters.

I look very much forward to reading this, but I think I need to re-read the series first! I also need to pick up Soulfinders… so no idea when I’ll get to this one!

33158561Wild Beautyby Anna-Marie McLemore

Goodreads

It’s not clear to me if this is a magical realism story or a fantasy one, but in any case, this young adult novel brings lush, gardens, mystery, family, love, and honestly sounds like a beautiful novel to read and get immersed in the world.

Also, this cover is kind of everything!! (yes, I know I said this for 90% of the books already… but look at it!!) I would totally cover-buy this with no regrets!

26221374Definitions of Indefinable Things, by Whitney Taylor

Goodreads

Okay, I honestly don’t remember the plot of this one, but I saw Cait from Paper Fury highly recommended this book and I got super curious. She’s a person that I totally trust when it comes to recommendations, as we usually have very similar tastes and opinions (also, her reviews are HILARIOUS). All I know is that this is a contemporary young adult novel that deals with mental health and seems like it represents it well.

28245707Queens of Geek, by Jen Wilde

Goodreads

Yes!!!! More books about geeks and fandom! I am so excited to read this young adult novel, it sounds absolutely cute, heartwarming and sweet. The cover is fabulous, too.

I think it’s a story about friendship, and I’ve only heard great things about it, so I think I’ll pick this up when I feel like reading something to lift the spirits… it does sound kind of perfect for that.

22817331Now I Rise, by Kiersten White

Goodreads

I kind of want to read this immediately. I read and loved And I Darken, so I expect even more fun reading the sequel! I loved Lada, she was such a unique character and the story was so incredibly gripping I just couldn’t put it down for anything. So I might wait for the third book to come out so I can binge read the sequels instead of reading Now I Rise and then suffering for another year until the third book comes out.

Special mention of books published this year I’m not sure I want to read but I might:

What are the books from this list you read and recommend to me? Are there books not on this list that you think I should read too? Let me know!

  1. So many good books on this list! I’ve read a few of these, and some I’ve got on my TBR as well. I actually just read Words In Deep Blue on Christmas and really enjoyed it! And all of these books just seem to have gorgeous covers.

  2. Brilliant list!! I haven’t read any of these, so you’re not alone, but I do really want to read Norse Mythology, Strange the Dreamer (Daughter of smoke and bone is amazing btw) and I still need to finish the Lara Jean series too (yes it does feel more like a summer read) And Wild Beauty and Last Namsara look great 😀
