Spooky Books I Got This October

Hello bookworms!

This is my October spooky book haul! I have reviewed a few books throughout this month with a more spooky, creepy and dark theme (from my Books I Want to Read for Halloween post), but throughout the month I got great recommendations for more spooky reads, and here is what I decided to get! I’m so into creepy books right now, let me know in the comments below if you have suggestions of dark fantasy, dark mystery and so on for me!

Spooky Books I Bought/Received This Month:

My Best Friend's Exorcism Grady Hendrix My Best Friends Exorcism, by Grady Hendrix

As said in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2017 post, I got this one from the Quirk Books and I’ll probably have already read it by the time this post comes up!

Synopsis: A heartwarming story of friendship and demonic possession. The year is 1988. High school sophomores Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fourth grade. But after an evening of skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen begins to act…different. She’s moody. She’s irritable. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby. Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries–and by the time their story reaches its terrifying conclusion, the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil? Like an unholy hybrid of Beaches and The ExorcistMy Best Friend’s Exorcism blends teen angst, adolescent drama, unspeakable horrors, and a mix of ’80s pop songs into a pulse-pounding supernatural thriller.

A Darker Shade of Magic V E SchwabA Darker Shade of Magic, by V. E. Schwab

This sounds so cool!! I have already Vicious to read by V. E. Schwab and I normally don’t buy more than one book from an author I haven’t read before, but this just sounded so interesting!

Synopsis: Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.
Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.
Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they’ll never see. It’s a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.
After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.
Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they’ll first need to stay alive.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha ChristieThe Murder of Roger Ackroyd, by Agatha Christie

I mentioned this on the 12-hour Readathon post, but I didn’t get to actually read it during the readathon! I hope to get to it soon.

Synopsis: The peaceful English village of King’s Abbot is stunned. First, the attractive widows Ferrars dies from an overdose of veronal. Not twenty-four hours later, Roger Ackroyd—the man she had planned to marry—is murdered. It is a baffling, complex case involving blackmail, suicide, and violent death, a cast that taxes Hercule Poirot’s “little grey cells” before he reaches one of the most startling conclusions of his fabled career.

One Dark Throne Kendara Blake One Dark Throne, by Kendara Blake

After reading and reviewing Three Dark Crowns, I went and bought One Dark Throne literally the next day. I can’t resist, the plot of this series is very intriguing!

Synopsis: The battle for the Crown has begun, but which of the three sisters will prevail?
With the unforgettable events of the Quickening behind them and the Ascension Year underway, all bets are off. Katharine, once the weak and feeble sister, is stronger than ever before. Arsinoe, after discovering the truth about her powers, must figure out how to make her secret talent work in her favor without anyone finding out. And Mirabella, once thought to be the strongest sister of all and the certain Queen Crowned, faces attacks like never before—ones that put those around her in danger she can’t seem to prevent.

The Female of the Species Mindy McGinnis The Female of the Species, by Mindy McGinnis

Ahhh this was $ 1.99 on Amazon Kindle, I couldn’t resist! The synopsis got me completely curious and the amazing ratings too!

Synopsis: Alex Craft knows how to kill someone. And she doesn’t feel bad about it.
Three years ago, when her older sister, Anna, was murdered and the killer walked free, Alex uncaged the language she knows best—the language of violence. While her own crime goes unpunished, Alex knows she can’t be trusted among other people. Not with Jack, the star athlete who wants to really know her but still feels guilty over the role he played the night Anna’s body was discovered. And not with Peekay, the preacher’s kid with a defiant streak who befriends Alex while they volunteer at an animal shelter. Not anyone.
As their senior year unfolds, Alex’s darker nature breaks out, setting these three teens on a collision course that will change their lives forever.

Endless Worlds Volume 2Endless Worlds, Volume 2: A Collection of Dark Faerie Tales, by multiple authors

This was a recommendation from The Orangutan Librarian, and it seems very interesting, like a good thing to pick up and just get a bit lost in its world and chill. I have no idea when I’ll dive into this, but I hope it’s soon!

Synopsis: A DARK FAERIE TALE ANTHOLOGY featuring eight short stories by well-received and upcoming authors, delivering new Faerie Tales, and dark twists on inspired tales.

  1. I love Agatha Christie I read so many of her books when I was younger – and the movies were just fabulous. I was really happy when I finished the Darker Shades Series – I wasn’t in love, love with this series, but at the end I was totally enthralled by it. I’m reading her Monsters of Verity series and loving it!!! I need to read Vicious next.

Have a great day and happy reading!!!

    • Me too! I loved trying to guess who the murderer was. My sister and I exchanged books sometimes to see if each other could guess too! Lots of fun!

Ohhh I’m so excited for getting into V E Schwab’s books, they sound awesome.

Thank you and you too! ❤
