What I Read During My Staycation

Hello readers!

I ended up reading 6 (or rather, a bit over 5) out of the 7 books I set out initially to read on my post TBR for my Honeymoon-Turned-Staycation-Because-Oh-Well, which is pretty good! And in addition I read a few more books. Basically my staycation turned into a 2-week readathon! Not too bad 🙂

the mirror and the light hilary mantel beach read emily henry meet cute club jack harbon

The Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantel / ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

This was on my TBR, and I had only a few hundred pages left, so it’s no surprise I finished it, but still yay! This was great, I loved it!

Beach Read by Emily Henry / ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

This was a nice read after so much literary fiction! A light but surprisingly complex rom-com that I really enjoyed.

Meet Cute Club by Jack Harbon / ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

Another cute romance, I’m glad to have read this! It also just came out, so if you’re looking for something cute, fast to read and very bookish and steamy, this is such a nice book.

red at the bone Jacqueline Woodson the king of crows libba bray a thousand ships natalie haynes

Red at the Bone by Jacqueline Woodson / ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

This was rather forgettable but still a good read! I read this in a day, and rightly so, because if I’d left it for later I might not have picked it up anytime soon.

The King of Crows by Libba Bray / ON STAYCATION TBR / READ A BIT

Almost done with this! I’m surprised I’m not done with it yet, but it’s such a great time to sit and read, and I didn’t really listen to books all that much (clearly).

A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes / ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

I finished this a couple hours before the shortlist of the Women’s Prize came out!

hamnet maggie ofarrell he started it samantha downing the falcon soars gabrielle mathieu

Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell / ON STAYCATION TBR / NOT READ

With the Women’s Prize Shortlist announced in April but the winner only in September, I thought I’d give a little break from reading it and continue with other books instead! So it’s the only book on my TBR for the Staycation that I didn’t pick up.

He Started It by Samantha Downing / NOT ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

After all that literary fiction I was on the mood for some thriller! This was great, so full of twists and exactly what I wanted to read. Also it was my first pick that wasn’t on my TBR!

The Falcon Soars by Gabrielle Mathieu / NOT ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

I had this book for the longest time, so it was nice to finish the trilogy! This was an okay read, and I reviewed the full series last week. Also wasn’t initially on my TBR.

The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa / NOT ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

This book was voted on Twitter as my next read and it did not disappoint! It’s such a beautiful book, and I loved it. Also not initially on my TBR.

Bunny by Mona Awad / NOT ON STAYCATION TBR / READ

This was a 5-star read! So funny, dark and twisted, I loved it. It’s a wild ride from the beginning to end and so entertaining! This was longlisted on our Book Blogger version of the Women’s Prize!

A Madness of Sunshine by Nalini Singh / NOT ON STAYCATION TBR / READ A BIT

I started it as a read for the Asian Readathon, but a day later ended up DNF-ing this. Pity, but happens and at least it’s finished now!
